The Solar Engine is used to generate energy to power the cart by using two dependencies: a direct view of the sky and a high enough light level. This makes it more effective for modular carts intended for such purposes as farming or transport as they will spend more time above ground. This means it is less useful for a cart intended for mining, where a Coal Engine would be more practical.

Above. This is how the interface looks. On top right is the
Engine Priority

Compatibility
The Engine works only with a Tiny or Regular Coal Engine on a Standard or higher hull.
